What we face ahead, harder work!
So yesterday was an interesting and fun day. We had a drunk bus celebrating the coming St Pattys Day festivities. It got a bit out of control and oh yeah, we had thunder storms all day. Still a good time, good friends, and cheap drinks.
I wore my new O'bama St Patty's Day shirt and definitely got into some curious discussion with Hillary supports. I have learned from sitting in a training at the Obama office in Philly; that you should never object someone's choice for president, never become emotional when talking to someone about our choices, and always use facts as a talking point and never opinions. I'll give two examples of what I discuss.
1 - First two girls I talked to wanted Hillary to win because she's a won. They didn't know much about policy (in fact one girl did not know what a policy was). Both believe all the smear tactics on the news. I had to explain that he's not Muslim, that he has just as much experience at Hillary in legislator (if not more), and that he was the original writer of the draft to withdrawal troops. They simply want Hillary because she is a girl, and when Bill Clinton was president everything was great so wouldn't a presidency with a Clinton be the same. Some hard arguments for individuals who didn't care about why they are voting.
2 - This one just blew me away. Talked to another girl about she wanted Hillary to be president. Again, lots of miss-information about Obama and non-information about Hillary. This is the point where my jaw dropped and I almost walked away. She didn't want him to win because he's black and would not know how to communicate to whites, Asians, and Latinos. I simply asked if that was a little racists, and she said possibly!
For some reason only girls we coming up to me about the O'bama shirt. Most are voting for the empowerment of women and little to do with the actual person they are voting for. A few read up on their candidates, which gave us a chance to discuss politics. And those occasional girls that were ignorant about race.
I know the rules about not talking politics when drinking, but what starts as a simple conversation turns into utter amazement. We have a long road ahead in PA.
